Dear Steve,
Following is information on a lecture at the San Diego Natural History
Musuem that may be of interest to the San Diego Herpetelogical Society
members.
Tuesday, June 5; 7-9 p.m.
Natural History of the Amphibians and Reptiles of Baja California and the
Sea of Corts
Lecture by Lee Grismer, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Biology, La Sierra
University, Riverside, CA
Baja California is the second longest peninsula in the world. Its extreme
environmental diversity encompasses barren sand dunes, coniferous forests,
and arid tropical forests. Along with its 120 islands in the Gulf of
California, Baja California has one of the greatest concentrations of
reptiles and amphibians on the planet, many of which can be found no place
else in the world. Take a look at the habitats of several species and hear
about the fascinating life histories of rattleless rattlesnakes that climb
trees at night to catch birds, giant chuckwalla lizards on islands, and
small lizards living in the intertidal seawater.
This lecture will be held in the San Diego Natural History Museum's new
Charmaine and Maurice Kaplan Theater. Price is $6 for SDNHM Members, Seniors
60 and over, full-time Students, Military, and Children 6-17; and $8 for
nonmembers. Please call (619) 232-3821 ext. 203 for reservations or visit
www.sdnhm.org.
