As you well know, many of the best spots are now ancient history. Proctor valley Road in Jamul is still OK, although someone has picked up many of the boards out there in the last couple of years. There are still some areas near Legoland, but some prime spots were lost to that.
Many people have gone to road driving in the desert, as a better way to see animals. But if you like to hike there are still some isolated spots out there.
