I help out at a pet store, and the other day a guy came in with a 10" snake. He had found it in his back yard, and picked it up and put it in a empty 2 liter coke bottle (bare handed!). He was trying to sell it to the store, but I explained to him that 1) it is illegal to sell wild caught herps, and 2) it is illegal to sell or possess rattlesnakes in California. You should have seen his face when I told him it was a rattler. He should have played the lottery that day! In his defense, the baby was very sluggish, looked like it was trying to brumate. One of the guys at the store is a licensed hot keeper, and kept it. It is so calm that when I moved it with a hook, it didn't even hiss or rattle, much less strike. My question is what kind of rattlers are here in San Diego, I know there are 4 types, but I don't remember which ones. If someone could E-mail me, I would appreciate it.
