Boa constrictor captured in Downey
DOWNEY -- A six- foot-long boa constrictor was captured Monday by an animal control officer and taken to a shelter, where officials hope someone will claim it.
The big snake took more than a day to catch after someone spotted it lounging on a fence.
Officers from the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority, which serves Downey and 11 other nearby cities, went to a home the 9300 block of La Reina Avenue about 3:30 p.m. and found the snake near some bushes in the back yard, said Aaron Reyes of the joint-powers agency.
Animal Control Officer Connie Bradford, who is 5 feet 2 inches tall, was able to trap the six footer without much of a struggle.
"He's huge but sweet," she said.
The snake was taken to the animal shelter in Downey. If no one claims it after five days, it will be put up for adoption. Those interested in adopting the boa can call the shelter at (562) 803-3301, Ext. 240
