it does mold, and does not dry up for a long time.  i use coconut for even dry species without a problem.  either return it or mulch your outside plants with it.

:I do not like the walnut chips very much. It has been a while since i've used them but from what I remember it molds easily when damp and gets caught in the animals mouths easily when feeding, which can be problematic for a number of reasons (i.e., infections in the gum line and worse yet, impactions in the gastrointestinal tract). Although somewhat attractive, I do not recommend the crushed walnut bedding.
