Hello. I can only speak for smooth-scaled sand boas (Eryx johnni) because I have never personally kept Kenyans. Smooth-scaled sand boas are awesome snakes, period. What the lack in color (unless you get the new bright orange ones), they more than make up for in hardiness. Mine have never attempted to bite, and always take their food, even when in shed (f/t). They have "cute" little faces with beady eyes. This snake is a great alternate to ball pythons as a first snake, in my opinion. Good luck.
