Sounds like the female was just not ready to mate again. I usually give my guys a four month break so the females can gain some weight and replensih calcium. I have heard tho that they will naturally stop breeding jan-feb. I plan on setting up my guys in trios instead of singly and seeing if this holds true. It would also cut down on all those tanks i have to clean..lol. As far as her wounds go, i would not worry so much its just normal wear and tear of mating. I personally would not put her back in with him till after the new year, but if you do put him in early just watch him, if she gets stressed out enough she might drop her tail.
