Just for that reason.....plus its just overall cleaner in general the crix cant hid and abby wont accidently eat a substrate that could potentially harm her because she is so young.

::Hi Sue,
:The cresteds will drop stool anywhere and everywhere, the stool will look sort of like mice feces (should be ferm, not runny) along with a liquidy white substance (which I believe to be some form of acidic digestive juice). Hope that answers your question. Just a note - I use both paper towels and newspaper which I believe to be much safer (little guys wont ingest the substrate), easier to clean (throw it away once a week), and I can monitor the cresteds output.
