Most vets don't deal exclusivly in herps & any that you volunteer at are going to take dogs/cats as well. As far as S. FL, where exactly are you. I am in Palm Beach & can help you find in info in the Palm Beach-Broward area. If what you are looking for is experience & hands on knowledge there are a lot of places you can turn. Have you tried any of the local herp societies?
