Sometimes people dont reply because they dont know the answer. I dont know why your eggs molded but it was probably because they were not fertile.

I incubate my eggs in small rubbermaid containers with lids either on top of my fridge or in an incubator. (Just depends on if I have room or not). I use vermiculite and it's not quite 1-1. (Note this should be by weight also not volume!) I use a little less water and they seem to be fine, if it gets too dry I just add a teaspoon or two to the corner of the container (not on or near the eggs.)
