hmmm, he should find grip on a branch, did you perhaps mist the cage before, so that the branch might have been wet?
my cresty sometimes also sleeps on the floor under a leave, at the beginning i was also afraid he might be sick, but i the breeder of my gecko told me (plus i remembered that i already read this in a book) that they sometimes sleep and hangout on the ground, even in nature.
but if the branch wasnt wet you should perhaps take a close look to your care sheed. do you feed him enough calcium, enough vitamins, on the other hand you can even poison a gecko with too much vit D3.

hope i could help as i am a newbie in crested keeping, but i read a lot before and still, but i am not a veteran and expert like mike, or some other people in this forum.
