I think placing fruit at the bottom of the cage is more natural. The treetops have the fresh unripened fruit still growing on them, which they don’t have the ability to eat. The forest floor has the over ripened fruit that has fallen off, split open and began to rot. This is what they are going after, nice mushy fruit to easily lap up. In captivity they even seem to like fruit more on the second day (older). But either way this is captivity we are talking about, nothing natural about, so it doesn’t really matter where you put it. They will soon learn where to go.
