They usually nail their target. Problem is when they miss (which does happen), they get a mouth full of loose substrate, if it is there. If it happens to often (some are worse then others) it could possibly lead to problems, which is why I always recommend feeding with bowls or not using loose substrate at all. No loose substrate also makes it easier come breeding time =)
