Seems the first 8 months or so they live on fresh air and sunshine, certainly not food :) They sure don't eat as much as you'd expect from a gecko that's got to grow HUGE. Oscar barely ate the first few months I had her, then spent a year eating anything and everything. Now she's almost 3 years old, and leveling off to more reasonable amounts.
