Well, there's one other thing I noticed about the two I have that got it. Unlike the rest of the cresteds I still have or sold, these ones would spend the day upside-down on the glass. Despite large tanks, small tanks, tons of places to hide, climb on etc. I'm assuming that contributed to it over time. If cresteds don't really grow up with tails in the wild, perhaps they (the tails) just aren't that strong...
Of course, this is just speculation on my part. But it's the one thing I noticed between both animals that got FTS.
