The male will usually snap at the female in an attempt to pin her down so he can copulate with her. However if the female is biting back and showing aggression, then she is clearly not ready to mate. If she were ready she would allow him to approach with little resistance. Try again in another month or two. If you try to often (like every week) she will get stressed out. Good luck.
