:I bought a crested that is supposed to be red, but he is 3 months old and his sides are grey, and his back is tanish brown. Do you think that he will turn out to be red?

Hard to say exactly what your Crested will look like as an adult, but it doesn't sound like it will become totally red. It may be a combination of colors. Baby Cresteds don't always look like the parents. Even a plain looking Crested can produce babies which are outstanding. Give it some time, this Crested may suprise you.
Take care
David
