Some geckos are just more flighty then others, due to any number of reasons. We have one such male who became increasingly flighty with age, and a female who was the direct opposite. The male actually dropped his tail when we went to open his cage! After that we moved him to a more secluded area, and he has been fine ever since. I recommend doing the same thing with yours, and not handling him unless you are cleaning his cage.
