the cascade line of filters is WAY better (and cheaper) than the fluval line. I have several freinds who run pet stores and two of them have stopped carrying fluval cannister filters because so many people bring them back complaining they are broken. I have also tried them myself and believe me the cascade provides way fewer headaches.
ALSO
if you find you can connect the cannister to an undergravel, it much better to connect the OUTFLOW of the cannister to the INFLOW of the undergravel
that is use it as "reverse flow"
you will get much larger more sustained pockets of air and better bacterial colonies.
If necesaary get a "penguin powerhead with reversese flow kit"
its way better to force air into the tubes and let it come out through the plates.
::I am about to buy a fluval 404 for use in a 30 gal tank setup. My question is, can I hook the Intake tube to an under gravel filter port? I’m worried that if I just put the tube in even with some sort of screen on it that it could catch and trap my little one in it. Would this work, or would the undergravel setup damage the filter, or hurt the efficiency of it?
