I don't, I just use both.

I have the UGF set up with it's powerhead(s). I also use the other filter (cannister or whatever) because it's stronger suction generally sucks out the chunks and crud before they get into the gravel. The benefit is that the gravel does not clog as quickly, so it works better longer, and you don't have to vacuum it as often. The other filter also works better, as you have a steady bacteria colony going in the gravel, so the filter starts working as a mini-bio as well as a scrubber rapidly even if you clean it thoroughly each time.
