The thing I don't like about the Magnums is that you have to buy their filter element (at least the magnums I've seen). I wanted something that I'd not be stuck dealing with a monopoly on replacement media forever. So...I went with Eheim.

Oh...and forcing water through the element will only stand to push more particles through it. You're best with a slower flow through the media.
