Well if you hand feed them pellets or anything else for that matter they begin to associate your hand with food. Also res's are incredibly curious animals and pretty much bite anything new added to they're environment. But mine go hide if i start seriously messing with the tank. only if dangling above water. Only suggestion would be if they do start biting don't react to it if they're not big enough to draw blood, this way they may quit trying. No guarantees, mine don't seem to care what i do.
Look on the bright side unlike snapping turtles a slider will usually let go pretty quickly and hurt a lot less, Trust me on that last part I know :)
