Turtles can and will eat their own kind... it happens more often with adults and hatchlings... this is one reason the hatchlings hide a lot.
You have to be careful not to attach human feelings/morals to turtles... they are just doing what comes naturally.
:I went to feed my 5 RES' tonight, only to discover the remnants of one of the smaller ones floating in the tank... basically just legs attatched to a vertebrae.
