It may cost a little bit of $$ but the best investment you can make is to get a UV sterilizer for your aquarium. It will kill all your free floating algae and help to keep your water free of harmful bacteria and nice and clear. My water in my 72 gallon tank is NEVER cloudy and or green and I only have to do a 1/3 water change every 2 weeks or so. Well worth the investment in the time and aggravation that is saved by having one.
