In Reply to: Does Cork for Basking Rot? posted by Yertle on April 19, 2003 at 11:16:24:
I would not recommend cork as a use for basking. Yes it will deteriorate after time...But also turtles could ingest some of the cork base. Most cork, from research that I have done, also contains some agents to bind the cork together...I'm not sure that what you are planning to use does or not but, why take the chance..
:I am making some changes in my RES tank, and am wanting to change from a rock basking platform to a large cork slab/log. Got a few questions...does the cork tend to rot at all over time, and what are good ways to anchor it to one location in the tank? (I was thinking of fixing it across one end.) And where are good locations to buy large cork? What online or chain stores (i.e. Petsmart, Petco, etc.) carry decently sized cork? I haven't seen much so far. Thanks guys!
