In Reply to: Is Guava's plastron coloration normal? posted by kiwiturtle on April 17, 2003 at 01:21:57:
It's not unusual for the colors of the sliders to change, but I would keep an eye on the plastron. The worst case scenario could be septicaemia, but along with the reddish flush of the plastron would be vomiting, and lethargy. So since you say he is quite active, it's probably nothing. I would just watch it and if he shows any other symptoms then you might want to have him checked by a vet, otherwise just enjoy him, he's a cutey.
:I read somewhere that in one turtle illness the plastron could look a bit orange, so I'm a little worried. Guava (the turt) eats well, poops well, swims well and basks regularly. He's a little shy with me but definitely not inactive.
:Also I don't know if it's illusion or not...but his whole color tone (carapace and skin) seems to get lighter, whereas my other turt seems to get darker. Is it normal for turts to experience subtle color changes?
:Thanks in advance for your input!
