The first 2 years I had my females they slowed down even when the temp was around 72 so yes it seems that maintain their own "clock"...but later they just reacted normally to the temps and as far as they knew it was always summer in their tank. Provide the proper lighting and heat and your turtle will be fine. I have a Mercury Vapor Lamp (its expensive but overall its cheaper than having to replace a heat lamp + fluorescent UVB every few months)...and my turtle seems to be basking MORE. I've read many articles written by scientists regarding the various forms of hibernation and it seems that its to key to reptile longevity and rejuvenation so the slow down may be a good thing (but I wouldn't purposefully induce hibernation in my turtle).

:lots of posts lately about lethargic and inactive turts...i wonder if, it's the WEATHER????? my turtle is doing the same thing. we have had virtually no spring in rhode island and i am depressed too!!!
