in addition to what the others said:

when you say your tank is half water and half land, that makes me think you have a sloping area of land....which will severely limit the amount of water you can put in the tank. You should have all the water you can put in the tank without them being able to climb out. Then make some kind of basking area. It doesn't have to be really big because they will just sit there..it's not like they will do laps around their basking area..they just sit there and soak up some heat.

By giving them more water, they will probably swim more. Activity also encourages eating.
