Vitashell is bad for your turtle's shell. I'm sure that you know that you need UVB/UVA light for your turtles. Hatchling turtles often have a more flexible shell than adults, especially back by the tail. I also give my turtles cuttlebone to nibble on. You can get it at any pet store that carries bird supplies (make sure that you take the shell off before you break it into pieces and put it in the tank). It is very high in calcium. However, before you do anything you should take this new turtle to the vet. Hope this helps. You should also check out austins turtle page under the health section and see what info they have there.
