:I had kind of the same problem with my baby too. the shell wasn't really soft though, i just noticed that I could push on the back and it would felx a bit. I was told to get some calcium suppliments and protein for him. I also started using vitashell. The calcium was actually a power that you mix with their food before putting it in the food in the water. For the protein I got the baby shrimp treats. All three products are made by Tetre Terrafauna and are pretty inexpensive. I noticed that you will get slightly faster results if you apply a thin coat of vitashell and keep the turtle out of the water for about 10 min so it can soak in. Good luck and keep us posted.
Vita shell is not necessary. It is best to make sure your turtle is getting that calcium supplement AND lots of UVB lighting. Make sure he gets those rays they are as essential as the calcium.
