Hatchling false water cobras do not generally feed on rodents, but rather prey on fish. As they grow, they are readily switched to rodents.
Also, the venom of Hydrodynastes gigas has been compared to that of Crotalus atrox, not C.horridus. These comparisons are not very practical anyway, but they do indicate that false water cobras have the potential to cause a severe envenomation.
