Hi mate

Has anyone actually done a study showing that the teeth are used for this function? I have a hard time believing it (toad skin is remarkably difficult to puncture and getting deep enough to cause lung collapse seems rather improbable). Also, these snakes feed on more than just toads.

To me, teeth like that are for use in a venomous function. As for people not showing significant effects, you know from our results to-date that for many species, it is probably more due to luck rather than inability. Regarding Macropisthodon, I would be extremely leary of it due to the fangs and the fact that its so awfully similar to Rhabdophis. They are much larger than some of the other related genera and certainly have much larger fangs.

Cheers
BGF
