I agree that hooks are worthless by and large for them.... it just gives them something to fly up! I used the MW gloves for mine and it went smoothly.

As for being 'primative', this of course is complete crap. They have extremely developed fang architecture and, as you pointed out, are very alert and seemingly intelligent snakes. A species I highly recommend for the experienced keeper to enjoy.
