I've had ones from coastal and desert california, arizona and texas. Their main food is lizards, and I've always kept them either on banded geckos or side-blotched lizards. The texas specimens will sometimes eat other things as well (I've heard of specimens taking pinkies and frogs) but it depends on where they are from. I've also gotten them to eat house / mediterranean geckos. If you have a big enough specimen, I'm sure you could convert it to pinks, but it would take a lot of work. I would not buy one unless you have a steady supply of lizards (anoles usually don't work) or unless the vendor has already converted it to pinks (have him prove it to you before you buy).
