I guess anyone can help me with this but Dwight answered a similiar question for me on the Field Collecting Forum. Anyways if someone would choose to follow the Eastern/Midland/Western breakdown at the species level of Ratsnakes (and now whatever genus will become accepted) how do ranges break down exactly. Dwight mentioned that it is seaboard to appalachian, apps to can't remember and then on. Well my question is does not the classic subspecies of Blackrats go from the midwest to the coast? So when I was a kid I saw some black rats in the Outerbanks of NC. So under the new breakdown would they be a completely different species then the black rats we have here in Ohio? If anyone could provide answers and/or links I would be much obliged.
