caught my first one (in hand) this weekend. This has been a goal for a very long time because I can now say that I have held all four subspecies in the wild (Masticophis taeniatus taeniatus, M. t. ruthveni, M. t. schotti, and now M. t. giardi). Pretty difficult feat when one considers that they are not exactly the most common snakes in most areas, are extremely weary (more so than coachwhips), are even faster, and are found over a very wide range. This one has been my nemesis for a very long time. And its a gravid female, so I get to see what hatchlings look like. Will post some pics down the road.
