: I know that many non-herp folks make a big deal out of snake bites, even non-venomous ones, but as far as I am concerned, most snakes have nothing on the "cute fuzzies" when it comes to biting! This morning I got nailed on the index finger by a white mouse I was preparing to feed to one of my Eastern Coachwhips-I grabbed the mouse a little too close to its body and it was able to whip around and sink its teeth into my finger! Hours later, the finger is still very swollen, so much so I cannot bend it, and throbbing like a bad toothache! I've had a Copperhead bite that wasn't much worse than this, in terms of pain and swelling! I already made an appointment for a tetanus shot this afternoon, since I am long overdue for one, anyway. About the only non-venomous snake that has caused so much hurt on me was an Emerald tree boa(and if anyone has ever seen their teeth you'd know why), and I would much rather have taken a bite from my 7 ft. female Coachwhip than this little mouse! I will certainly be much more careful picking up these little demons from now on!

Rick:: I 've had bad infections like that before and I always found daily soaking of the infected digit in warm betadine and peroxide will clear it up and save you a doctors visit.
