Hey Stephen. Black Racers need a lot of space, so at the least use a 20 gallon tank. I'd give him ventral heating on one end of the cage by using an undertank heating pad. I'd also give him full spectrum lighting and a heat lamp (one end of the cage should be around 85F). Black racers are also real nervous and would benefit from several hiding places and a large water bowl is best (so he can soak). About feeding, racers can be picky, especially if WC. Many will only take frogs and lizards but can be switched to scented and eventually unscented mice. Good luck and report back on how it goes.
