I don't think the color is a good indicator of sex because my female does have a lot of blue and looks a lot like your male.
I have 1.2 and keep one of the females in a 40 gal tank with cypress mulch and some artificial plants. I use plastic plant saucers as hiding places, and they are used by the animals.
