Absolutely not. The name coachwhip comes from the fact that they are long, slender, tapered snakes that are usually dark brown or blackish, with large sccales that give them a braided appearance much like the whips used to drive horse teams in the old days. People who heard of the snake and its name, assumed it was able to do these things and that that was how it got its name.
