Just kidding..LOL. I think we're going to be alone on this one John. We live in blue racer country, but I don't know any others on this forum that do. Seriouly, I found a shed racer skin out in the pasture one day and it measured 6'6'', but we all know that a shed skin is going to be longer than the actual snake. I don't know if I ever caught the original owner, but the biggest I caught in that habitat was about 6 ft. even. I kept getting this one in my garden that was eating all the other snakes there; like garters, browns, and red-bellies. I would transport it to another area of the 120 acre property and the next year it would be back again. At least I thought it was the same one. It was so big you could hear it coming down through the swail (a moist area with young trees). The dry leaves would be rattling all the way down to the base of the swail. Then he'd get in the tall grass and the head would pop up and start looking around. When I was out there he'd hide in the swail, but when I left he'd hunt all over. Sometimes he'd be in the garden and sometimes he'd be in the tall grass. When he crawled away you could see the grass moving from side to side. And if you chased him you could follow from twenty feet away and still know where he was. If you got too close he would start chasing you. I know it doesn't seem likely...but one time he even raised up about three feet off the ground and hissed and struck at my face. Only a very quick reaction saved what may have been an embarrassing moment. How about you John. Got an interesting racer story?? Terry.
