I've never owned a viper boa, but I have owned a blood python since January. He was my first snake! If you are going to choose a blood python make sure you research your brains out before you get it, you shouldn't have to ask important questions after getting it. And you should have the tank already set up before hand. Blood pythons can make great pets, they can eat really well and be very tame. Here is my advice: choose which one you like more and become an expert on it.
