Spotted and Children's Pythons are really close to the same as far as care is concerned. http://www.reptilehaven.net has some really good care sheets that will help you out!
The Richmond show should be a great to get one! The best advice for you would be to do your research now, get a cage and and all the accessories set up this weekend so that it is well established and your temps and humidity are all in line. That way when you come home next weekend your snake will have a home and that is ready for it! Make sure that you get yourself a captive bred and established snake. The antaresia babies can be nippy and hard to get established and eating regularly.
