I have a pair of 4 year old Roti locality Macklot's which I've had since hatchlings. As youngsters they are very defensive, striking anything that moves. If you feed them well and put some size on them, they calm down with really no effort. They have a very strong feeding response so you will want to use a hook when removing them from the cage. Once out, my adults are among my calmest snakes. Consider also I have a large collection and don't spend any time handling my animals except for the brief weekly cage cleanings. These really are an underrated python. They have almost an ideal adult size, are easy to care for, and a great python for someone who wants to try their hands at breeding. My four year olds gave me their third clutch in three years which is just beginning to pip.
