Your lens cannot focus closer than the minimum focus distance of the lens. Read the camera manual for that distance and always stay at least that distance away from your subject.

If that distance is unacceptable, you may be able to get either a screw on teleexender or a set of close up lenses for your camera. In order to do this, your camera has to accept screw on accessory filters. Some digitals do, others don't.
