B&W is some of my favorite photography. You will love the darkroom forever once you get the itch. Some of my best "good" snake shots were with a plain old Nikon 200 mm and an 85 mm. Real Macro is nice but if I can avoid it for shooting herps because of the loss of Depth of Field. . If you really want macro in 35 mm, you'll need and ACTUAL macro lens, an extension tube, or a bellows. Have fun...JP
