I use a Nikkromat for all my BW stuff, but in order to do close up images like I think your talking about, you do need special lenses, cause the standard 50mm lenses only have like a 1 foot closest range, you need macro lenses or something, forgot what their called, someone in my class did a picture of their dogs eye, it was really cool.
