Read the reviews at www.dpreview.com. I thought about a 5700 as an upgrade to my 990 but while I liked the extra optical zoom, I couldn't get past the poor low light focus issues with the Nikons in that class. I like the Sony low light focus but had some other issues with it. Although I ended up with a dslr, both of those cameras are good, it just depends on what you need out of your camera.
