You are correct, B&H is not the cheapest online order place (but it isn't the most expensive). But they are the most reputable. Adorama is good generally, but they aren't as reputable as B&H.
I have used both many times. I have also succumbed to "bargain fever" and purchased from a number of items from other places. Every time, almost without exception, I regretted it.
You may save a few dollars somewhere else, and you may get lucky and get what you want, but you may also get cheated. Here are some of the things that happen -
- you get an "out of box" camera. Often these are cameras that people purchased and returned.
- There is no warranty on the camera because it is "refurbished" or "gray market" (not packaged for US sale)
- "Yes sir, we'll get that out today". Meanwhile, 6 weeks later, no camera! This is a very common problem.
- Their bargain basement price only comes with a package deal. This usually involves useless or substandard accessories that you would have to replace (cheap memory, lousy batteries, cheap bags, etc).
Stick with B&H, spend a few more dollars, be happy. Or take a chance that you will learn a lesson that thousands of people per day learn.
There are some online reviews of these photography supply stores somewhere.
. And if you are unhappy with some of the bargain stores you can forget trying to get your money back!
