:Neighborhood kids brought me a rescuued painted turtle, because I love reptiles. I don't have much experience with aquatic stuff, though. She's doing much better, and is living in my bathtub. (Kind of a pain, since my family lives in a 1 bathroom house!) She's eating and active. My question is what kind of permanent housing does she require? I've got a 40 gallon aquarium. Is this big enough for a foot long turtle? What kind of filtration system will she need? More than a plain old fish tank, I'm guessing.... I've got dayglow & nightglow bulbs for her, and flat slate rocks to pile up for her to climb on. What else do I need? Any suggestions will be appriciated. Thanks, Fred

I don't have much time to go into all of the care required but I can give you this link. They have care sheets for all of the painted turtles. I have 3 eastern painted turtles. I'll be back later, I'll try to help you more then. Good luck, and congrats on your new family member. :)
